Art Stage Singapore

There is a big art event happening in Singapore this week that is worth checking out. The art scene in Asia, especially Singapore, has gotten more vibrant over the years. Art Stage Singapore, Asia’s new premier international art fair, is proof that Singapore is ready to be part of the global art market.

I went for the VIP preview at Marina Bay Sands today, thanks to Galerie Patrick Cramer. The fair opens to public from 13th-16th January. A day pass is $30 while a season pass is $60. Students and senior citizens enjoy a concession rate of $10. For more information, please visit www.artstagesingapore.com

Here are some of the art pieces I saw today that I really like... I will be going back this weekend to check out the art pieces again. If you like Japanese artists, you will be thrilled to see works by big names such as Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara.

A Name Less Known

Roskanda Illincic is not a household name, at least not in Singapore. Only those who love and follow fashion closely will know her name. The London-based designer is known for her skills in draping and has gained recognition since she started out her own line in 2002. Her collections are available on Net-A-Porter and Browns Online.

I feel her Spring 2011 collection is not her strongest to date. However, I do love the colour palette and soft drapes. Here are my top picks.

Getting My Hands On Carven

If I were to own a fashion store, Carven will be a brand I'll stock. I first wrote about it last year, when the old French label just got revived by Guillaume Henry, a former designer at Givenchy. http://style-canvas.blogspot.com/2010/05/ive-got-my-eyes-on-carven.html

The brand's success is carved in stone... I mean, it did get a stamp of approval by Net-A-Porter. Now, only in its third collection, the pics are being shown on www.style.com! Need I say more?

I personally can't wait to get my hands on these looks by Carven once they are available on Net-A-Porter. Check out the shoes as well. LOVE them! Tres chic! Mark my words... Carven is going to be a huge brand soon.

Investing In Digital Prints By Peter Pilotto

Two years ago, Peter Pilotto burst onto the fashion runway like fireworks with their amazing digital prints. To top it off, they also have great skills in creating wonderful drapery. The rise of this label has been phenomenal, and designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos have built a strong following.

However, for Spring 2011, I feel that the magic did not flow through the entire collection. I understand that a good designer will always try to break away from a signature style and push boundaries, but steering away too much is not a good thing if that's what consumers are looking for.

I applaud Peter Pilotto for showing their draping skills on blank canvases... but something is missing when the signature prints ain't present.

I would only buy a printed outfit from Peter Pilotto as that's my way of investing in art, wearable art. These are the three looks I am keen to try. Can't wait for them to be available on Net-A-Porter!

The Future Is Neon

If there is one key accessory that you should have in your Spring 2011 wardrobe, it will be something neon and bright. The future is neon bright at Burberry Prorsum, as seen through the eyes of Christopher Bailey. Yesterday, I wore a simple white tank with a black leather jacket and black jeggings... and decided to go along an acid punk gothic theme by wearing my neon pink Lanvin for H&M necklace. I thought it was experimental to clash neon with leather, but I guess it did work as I receive a couple of compliments... and looking at these runway pics of Burberry Prorsum assured me that I am not off the fashion tangent.

I shall go scour the high street stores and stock up on neon accessories before everyone does. If I am lucky, I will also find something cool in coloured leopard prints or a nice metallic jacket. Hmm, maybe I should just go to the local craft store and get some materials to make my own accessories instead.

Here are some looks I love and find inspiring...

Add a dash of neon to break up the muted shades...

Yes, you can clash bright and bright, if you do it right.

This ain't bright but I love the textured leather look. Genius!
