Are You Ready For H&M Singapore?

The day has finally arrived. It seems just only yesterday that I visited the H&M showroom in Singapore. H&M will open its first store in Singapore on 3rd September. A bittersweet pill to swallow but a fashion reality to accept.

However, 2nd September is the special date on all fashionistas' calendars... as it's the VIP opening preview party! Having an invite is like scoring the golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

H&M may be a well-known brand but not many know about its history. Here's a trivial pursuit in the spirit of H&M.

1. What does H&M stand for and who is the founder?

H&M stands for Hennes & Mauritz and was founded by Erling Persson in 1947. The man who has forever changed the future of fashion.

2. Where is the first ever H&M store?

The first H&M store was in Västerås, Sweden

At the time, it only sold women's clothing and was called Hennes, Swedish for "hers".

3. When did it become H&M?

In 1968, when founder Erling Persson bought the hunting and fishing equipment store Mauritz Widforss. The name changed to Hennes & Mauritz and sales of men's and children's clothing began.

4. How many stores does H&M have worldwide?

I can't wait to be amongst the first to check out the spanking new H&M store tomorrow before it opens to public on 3rd September. Watch this space, I will be back to fill you in with the goss of the opening event...
